Deep character with hints of fruit marmalade, black cherries, and rich cherry tones that blend with delicate vanilla notes and a touch of spice. The taste is complex and elegant, where structure and softness combine with a well-balanced tannin consistency, making each sip a sophisticated experience.
Amarone is made using a unique winemaking method that uses grapes grown in Valpolicella, which, once harvested, are dried in crates. Amarone wine has a high alcohol content thanks to the fermentation of sugars derived from drying. From the 2019 vintage onward, Villa Rizzardi is officially a Riserva Amarone and will only be produced in limited quantities in the best vintages. Made with 51% Corvinone, 24% Corvina, 15% Rondinella, and 10% Barbera. The grapes are grown in the Pojega vineyard, where the average age of the vines is at least 30 years. To best enjoy it, we recommend letting the wine “breathe” for at least 1-2 hours before serving.
About Guerrieri Rizzardi Guerrieri Rizzardi owns a large share of the very best and most sought-after vineyards in Soave, Valpolicella, and Bardolino. And since 1998, when Giuseppe Rizzardi became winemaker and viticulturist, the wines of the 200-year-old family business have undergone an almost revolutionary quality improvement.
Giuseppe Guerrieri Rizzardi’s philosophy combines tradition with modern vinification. The wines should continue to reflect the taste of local grapes, and the character will not shift toward high-alcohol wines focused on fruit rather than character. All wine is harvested exclusively from their own vineyards in Veneto, allowing for personal control at every stage of the process. They strive for organic viticulture and use mowed grass as fertilizer.
In addition to a general tightening of the entire wine production, Giuseppe has also introduced handcrafted wines during this period, which truly capture the essence of each vineyard and showcase the region, the people behind it, and the history and experience of generations.
Rizzardi’s Environmentally Friendly Wines In 2011, a new winery just outside the town of Bardolino was completed. The winery is designed to be self-sufficient in energy, with solar panels covering 2,000 m² providing more energy than is actually used. Additionally, Rizzardi uses outdoor fermentation tanks for red wines, which utilize the sun’s energy to reach fermentation temperatures, and a gravity system to bring the must to the fermentation tanks. The water used in production even comes from their own well, all in benefit of the environment.
Rizzardi is committed to limiting the amount of artificial pest and weed control products used in the vineyards. To that end, they planted bushes and trees at the edges of the vineyards, specifically chosen to attract beneficial insects capable of keeping pests under control. Their latest project involves sowing between the rows of vines. Plants such as peas, vetches, and clovers. In 2016, Rizzardi also purchased a four-hectare, organically certified vineyard on the hillside of Rocca del Garda.
Last but certainly not least, Rizzardi uses lightweight glass bottles for almost all wines, and everything used daily at the winery is recycled, from glass, corks, and bottles to office paper and packaging.
