Muscat de Rivesaltes is composed of 70% Muscat d’Alexandrie and 30% Muscat à Petits Grains, which are sourced from the property’s biodynamically cultivated vineyards. The subsoil consists of clayey and calcareous layers, mixed with crumbling shale and classic round deposit stones. The climate is warm, but with good cooling from the sea – all perfect conditions for growing Muscat.
The grapes are pressed immediately after arrival in the cellar, and fermentation begins spontaneously with the grapes’ own yeast. The brandy is added in the middle of the process, and the wine is then stored cool in steel tanks for approx. 6 months. Bottling takes place after natural sedimentation and without filtration.
Muscat de Rivesaltes has a nice, glossy, pale golden colour. The scent is very complex with delicate notes of flowers and leaves first, which are quickly replaced by more exotic nuances of ripe fruits (orange, mango, peaches). On the palate, the wine is quite structured and crisp despite the fruity sweetness, and it finishes very fresh and a bit spicy (including spearmint). The wine’s freshness makes it suitable as an aperitif/welcome drink, or for a small glass early in the morning, but it is also excellent for desserts with fruit or vanilla. Try it also for ice cream or sorbet – or for a good blue cheese. Muscat de Rivesaltes should be served chilled but not ice cold. A temperature of approx. 8° is recommended.
