Decades II is truly a unique and exquisite expression, a marriage of 21 casks carefully selected from the past five decades.
The first Decades release came in 2011 to honor the work of former Distillery Manager Douglas Campbell.
Decades II is a tribute to everyone at Tomatin, both past and present. It combines the finest whisky from Tomatin’s history, with each decade contributing a new flavor experience.
Graham Eunson, Distillery Operations Director at Tomatin, said: “Balancing the flavor profiles of just a few casks can be quite a challenge, so blending five decades of Tomatin whisky in such a way that each cask complements the next is a testament to an incredible team—both those working at Tomatin today and those who have come before us. 1970s – Bourbon hogshead
1980s – First-fill Oloroso sherry butt
1990s – First-fill bourbon
2000s – Verdejo wine cask
2010s – Second-fill French oak cask
The blend of ex-bourbon, ex-sherry, wine, and re-charred French oak casks from the past 50 years gives Decades II remarkable complexity.
Aroma
Citrus fruits, hints of sweet pastries, and wood shavings. Cooked fruits are balanced with soft florals and coconut. A general sense of maturity emerges with dried fruits, almonds, and exotic spices adding depth.
Taste
Christmas cake, maple syrup, and fresh red berries. Over time, tropical fruits appear, accompanied by orange zest and ginger.
Finish
Long and waxy, with tropical fruit, chocolate, and spice.
