One of the classics in Diageo’s annual Special Release is Talisker. It typically appears as a relatively young edition, always at cask strength, which is also the case for 2024. However, special attention has been given to the barrels for this year’s representative from Skye, named Tidal Churn. It’s partially aged in so-called “stone-spun” barrels, referring to an unusual process in which the barrels are scrubbed on the inside with rotating stone wheels. Aha! The alcohol content is at 58.7%—that’s clear enough.
Color: Golden. Aroma: Sea breeze, oyster shells, and other maritime hints, which also allow room for apple and pear. Taste Notes: Salty and mineral with touches of green apples and freshly ground pepper.
Serving suggestion: Best enjoyed neat or with a few drops of cool water.
