The Special Edition series has been developed in collaboration with selected Nordic chefs and bartenders, and is a modern tribute to the classic schnapps. The innovative chef Casper Sobczyk, also known as the butter chef from Solskinsøen, is the man behind Special Edition 1 – Rhubarb and Star Anise. Special Edition 1 brings together the Danish summer country in a unique and sensual taste experience, and gets its beautiful pink color from the sun-ripened rhubarb. Special Edition 1 can be drunk as is. The sweet schnapps can also be mixed into desserts or used as part of Casper’s signature cocktail: the King of Denmark.
Behind Snaps Bornholm are three friends – Simon Lorentzo Jensen, John Oxlade and Jesper Kleine Rasmussen. Over several years, they have privately made their own chili schnapps, which has been very popular among friends. In 2015, the idea of putting the schnapps into production arose, and the search for a producing partner began. That led them to Bornholm and to De Bornholmske Spritfabrikker in Nexø. The meeting with Bornholm and the owner Niels Frost Jensen and his wife Erna made it clear that they had found the perfect business partner. Niels shares their great passion for schnapps, and it didn’t take long for them to agree to play and experiment with natural, organic ingredients to arrive at a Bornholm schnapps of the finest quality. A schnapps brewed on proud traditions with a modern twist that piques curiosity and provokes the senses.
Cocktail recipe: The King of Denmark
6 cl. Rhubarb & Star Anise Snaps
2 cl. dark room
2 cl. fresh lime juice
1 cl. vanilla syrup
3 cl. egg whites Star anise
Chill a martini glass with ice. All the ingredients are shaken thoroughly. Strain into a coupé glass. Garnish with a star anise.
