Sleight of Hand The Psychedelic 2018 75 cl.

Washington – USA

Pure “Rocks” Syrah ecstasy from Stoney Vine Estate Vineyard. Spontaneous fermentation with the stems and aged for 16 months (23% new French oak). Bottled – unrefined and unfiltered. A great, exciting The Rocks specimen, with killer notes of blackberry, wild pepper, lots of tobacco and notes of black olives. Rich, full and funky! An exciting texture and a fantastic finish. This beauty has plenty of classic “Old World” aromatics paired with beautiful “Washington State” fruit.

Serving suggestions: An interesting food wine that will go well with both winter’s heavy dishes and summer’s barbecue.

Sleight of Hand Cellars was founded in 2007 by Trey Busch and Jerry and Sandy Solomon. From the start, the goal has been to produce world-class wines, but at the same time to have as much fun as legally possible.

The winery has been open for just a dozen years, but in that time Sleight of Hand Cellars has been named one of “The Next Generation” of up-and-coming wineries in Washington State, as well as one of “The Next Cult Wineries” by Seattle Magazine . In addition, the winery has been featured in Wine Spectator magazine and had several wines on various of the industry’s “Top 100” lists, including most recently being named to the Wine Spectator Top 100 2018 for their Levitation Syrah.

In 2011, the winery moved from a storefront to its current property in South Walla Walla, where it continues to focus on the goal of making wines that rival the best in the world from a combination of Estate vineyards and vineyards in some of the best wineries locations in Washington State.

“The 2018 Syrah Psychedelic comes from the estate Stoney Vine Vineyard and was 50% destemmed and sees slightly more new oak than the other wines here, aging in 23% new barrels. There’s certainly no oak to be detected, and it has killer notes of blackberries, peppered game, tobacco, black olives, and candied violets. Rich, fullbodied, and opulent, it has a more rounded, opulent texture, sound underlying structure, and a great finish. This beauty has plenty of classic Old World aromatics paired with beautiful Washington State fruit.”

“Made from 50% whole cluster, the 2018 Syrah The Psychedelic displays a dark ruby core with purple highlights on the rim. Aromas of savory blackberry, black pepper tones, cured meat and smoked cherries waft out of the glass with dried herbs, olives and warmed stones. Full-bodied, the palate is savory with bright, energetic acidity, vibrant and lifted black raspberry flavors, cracked pepper and crushed rock. The wine continues to unpack and unfold while it evolves over the long, winding, mineral-laced and spicy finish. It’s delicious.” – Anthony Mueller (October, 2020)
