Simers & Co. Spritfabrik & Distillation was founded in the 1850s, and behind the retro label hides a traditional Norwegian akvavit made according to the same old recipe. Cumin is the dominant flavour, and the aquavit is also allowed to rest for a time (6-9 months) in used casks, which rounds off the spirit without giving overly strong notes of oak.
Colour: Clear with a light golden tinge.
Aroma: Citrus-influenced aroma with cumin and a light barrel note.
Tasting notes: Medium body and fine, fresh cumin notes.
Serving suggestion: The obvious accompaniment to the Danish (or Norwegian) lunch table. Enjoy it slightly chilled, but not necessarily ice cold.
Simers Taffel Aquavit is a traditional light aquavit that has a lovely strong and not least complex flavor of cumin and citrus. It has aged for 6 to 9 months in oak casks, which removes the most volatile and raw components and gives it a good, rounded character. Suitable for herring and fatty, heavy food.
Arcus is one of the Nordic region’s largest wine and spirits distributors. The company’s roots go back to the 1800s, when the trade started with casks of aquavit, and it is definitely aquavit that is Arcus’ greatest strength today – they are probably one of the best in the discipline at all!
In 2012, Arcus bought De Danske Spritfabrikker, and their impressive portfolio thus includes brands such as Aalborg Akvavit, Gammel Dansk and Braastad Cognac, in addition to all the Norwegian classics such as Lysholm, Løiten, Gammel Opland and a large number of other old, traditional brands.
