Seresin Estate’s Pinot Gris

A rich, lively, and delicate wine with notes of ripe yellow pears and ginger—typical characteristics of Pinot Gris from cool climates. The grapes for this wine come exclusively from the clay-rich Raupo Creek vineyard, located in the heart of Omaka Valley. The vineyard is farmed using organic and biodynamic principles as part of Seresin Estate’s commitment to sustainable viticulture. With its northwest-facing slope, the vineyard enjoys abundant sunshine and minimal rainfall, contributing to the development of high-quality fruit.

With its elegant and complex character, this Pinot Gris pairs beautifully with a variety of dishes, including fresh seafood, grilled prawns, pan-seared scallops, creamy pasta dishes, or mildly spiced Asian cuisine.

The grapes are harvested early in the morning and brought directly to the winery to preserve their freshness and quality. They are gently pressed and allowed to settle naturally overnight. The next morning, the juice is transferred to stainless steel tanks and neutral barrels for spontaneous fermentation. After fermentation, the wine is aged on the lees in barrels for three months, where natural malolactic fermentation occurs. Finally, the different components are blended and filtered before bottling.

93 POINTS – WineWherEver
“Precision and minerality.”
Sharp and mineral-driven, with acidity that cuts through the delicate fruit like a finely layered Japanese chef’s knife. It has a creamy mouthfeel, fine tannins, and a well-balanced bitterness in the finish, giving the wine a serious and structured character. A very serious Pinot Gris indeed.

92 POINTS – VineXpressen
“Bravo!”
Seresin never disappoints. Wonderfully aromatic with hints of peach, honeydew melon, and pears. Almost tropical juice-like on the palate, with delightful fruit sweetness and a soft, pleasant acidity in the finish. Bravo!

About Seresin Estate

The name ‘Seresin’ was long established in the international film industry, thanks to producer Michael Seresin, who gained fame with movies such as Harry Potter, Fame, and Midnight Express. Later, he turned his attention to winemaking—a decision that has proven to be highly successful. Seresin Estate has been lauded by the international wine press, and for good reason. Their breathtaking white and red wines have placed New Zealand’s premier wine region, Marlborough, on the world map.

Despite the maritime climate, the region’s wide riverbed provides near-perfect conditions for viticulture. The porous soil, rich in gravel, ensures excellent drainage—essential in this sometimes rainy climate. Large stones on the vineyard surface reflect sunlight and retain warmth during Marlborough’s cool and crisp summer nights. Here, wineries with welcoming cellar doors offer not only world-class wines but also great company and captivating stories—especially when it comes to their signature varietal, Sauvignon Blanc, affectionately referred to as ‘Sav’ by the proud locals.

Craftsmanship and Modern Technology

Seresin Estate is one of the most advanced wineries in New Zealand. The winery is built on multiple levels, allowing gravity to move the wine naturally from the top to the bottom, eliminating the need for pumps that could strip away delicate flavors. “They steal too many taste components,” as they say at the estate. All grapes are organically grown, and despite phylloxera being a significant challenge in the region, not all of Seresin’s vines are grafted onto American rootstock.

Seresin Estate’s labels are a story in themselves. The front label features a simple yet powerful symbol: a hand, representing humanity’s most basic tool—cultivated from the earth and the journey it takes. No words, just the essence of strength and craftsmanship.
