Schola Sarmenti Viginti – A very noble red wine from Apulia
The name Viginti comes from Latin and means twenty. On the occasion of Schola Sarmenti’s 20th anniversary, this anniversary wine was bottled on September 20, 2020, strictly limited to 7,000 bottles. The wonderfully dry-tasting Viginti from the Schola Sarmenti winery is a very high-quality and excellent top-quality red wine from Italy. This wine is vinified from the popular red grape variety Negroamaro. The very high-quality and particularly selected grapes grow and thrive on the old vines, wonderfully full, ripe and juicy, in the picturesque vineyards under the wonderful Italian sun in the wine-growing region of Apulia. The family winery owns eleven hectares of fertile vineyards in the Nardo area, the peninsula in southern Apulia. The rich and porous soil and the cool breezes from the sea ensure very harmonious and mature wines, like this one. The majority of the vines grow in the traditional Alberello (tree training) without wire frames.

The tongue and palate are delightfully dry, complex, aromatic, expressive with an enormous fruitiness. The present acidity, its wonderful melt, its finesse, the crisp texture and the wonderfully ripe and very well integrated and structured tannins make this red wine taste wonderfully lively and fresh. In the finale it enchants with a considerable length and rich fullness.

Vinification of the Schola Sarmenti Viginti
The dry Italian red wine Viginti from Schola Sarmenti is a true wine composition and is made from the pure Negroamaro grape variety. The sun-drenched and wonderfully ripe grapes grow on vines that are over 60 years old and that have dug their roots deep into the fertile soil in the Nardo area over the decades. The old vines only offer a small yield (300 g per vine), but the berries are very aromatic and fruity. The grapes are traditionally and carefully hand-picked by the winemakers at Schola Sarmenti. In small boxes of only around 1 kg, the collected grapes are left to dry for 48 days during the day under the sun and the cool wind of the sea. In the evening and overnight, they are stored in the cellar, protected from moisture. The drying and the associated loss of water make the berries sweeter and even more aromatic. The long and slow drying process and the optimal climate allow the grapes to dry out beautifully. The quality of the grapes is not affected and the valuable acid is retained. Once they arrive at the press house, the harvest is inspected, selected, destemmed and carefully broken open. The grape must is then fermented at controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks and then aged for an incredibly long 30 months in French oak barrels. Finally, the Viginti matures for a further 8 months in the bottle. This is how this racy and intense red wine achieves its great depth and incredible complexity.
