Fresh and full flavor with pears, lime and apricot, which ends in a long and creamy aftertaste.
In the boot country, excellent white wines are made, although it is often the reds that command most of the attention. This, in turn, means that you can get white wine of very high quality at prices that have not yet skyrocketed. Some of Italy’s very best wine is made in Piedmont, and this applies particularly to the wines made from the local Arneis grape variety. Also known as “Piedmontese Chardonnay”.
In the Roero zone of Piedmont, the wine has even achieved DOCG status, and Malvira is one of the producers who particularly guarantee Arneis of the highest quality.
Here in an elegant riserva edition with carefully selected grapes that come exclusively from the Saglietto field. The soil here is rich in lime and clay, and this gives a wine with a nice, mineral character and great aging potential.
The extra long aging contributes to a golden and intense scent that is rich in fruit and floral impressions.
An excellent white wine that will be perfect to serve with light pasta dishes, fish and medium-aged cheeses. Finally, it can be effortlessly enjoyed all by itself.
About Malvira
Often, the Piedmont producers take a long look at the best Barolos and Barbarescos. But sometimes the Barolo producers cast envious glances at the Langhe wines, such as those produced by Malvira in the Roero area around the town of Alba. Malvira can do something special – both with the red Nebbiolos and the white Arneis wines.
Unique wines with special taste and minerality
The winery was founded in the mid-1950s by Giuseppe Damonte. At the time, the area’s potential was not yet fully developed, but Giuseppe saw the possibilities of also producing good wine in this part of Piedmont and began to grow wine on a small scale in a few fields. During the 70s, he involved his sons Massimo and Roberto in the production.
The two brothers have divided the tasks sharply between them: Massimo reigns in the vineyards, while Roberto is responsible for the cellars. This perfect pairing has resulted in a tremendous quality boost in the wines from Malvira.
Malware today
The winery currently has 42 ha of vines in the municipalities of Canale, Monteu Roero, Castellinado and La Morra. The winery itself is located a little outside Canale. The area was covered by the sea thousands of years ago. The soil is therefore particularly calcareous, clay and sandy. This combination gives the wines from Malvira the special taste and minerality that make them completely unique.
The name “Malvira” derives from the location of the former cellar. The courtyard faced north instead of south, which was completely against tradition. So “mal” stands for bad and “virà” for location. The cellar was then moved to its current and much better location at the foot of the Trinità field in the small town of Canova outside Canale.
