Rum Malecon Selecciòn Esplendida Vintage 1985 70 cl. 40%
Premium Panama Aged Rum
Malecon Selección Esplendida 1985 is a premium Panamanian molasses rum from a limited collection that is among the most valuable pieces of the Malecon brand. It was created to celebrate the fusion of Panamanian craftsmanship and Cuban master blenders.
In 1985, this rum was distilled using a multi-column still and then matured in oak casks. Three decades later, in 2015, it was bottled. Thanks to the extra long maturation, it acquired an irresistible complex flavor full of fruity notes.
For perfect enjoyment, we recommend serving neat without ice and at room temperature. The rum is housed in a luxurious leather gift box with a numbered certificate of authenticity.
Although Malecon is a Cuban-styled rum, it is actually a Panamanian rum. The rum is produced in collaboration with Varela Hermanos Bodegas de America SA. Malecon makes several different types of rum. All the rum is made from molasses and there are several levels and many differences in the rooms. Varela Hermanos is located in the town of Pesé in the south of central Panama. In 1908, the then owner, Don José Varela Blanco, established the first sugar factory. Later, in 1936, the rum factory opened, which has been producing high-quality rum ever since. Malecon is a bit drier than its brother Malteco, but more complex. There are generally 3 categories: ‘Rum-Reservas’, ‘Rum Rare Proof’ and ‘Rum Seleccion Esplendida’. The Reservas are aged rums aged 10-25 years. Rare Proof is bottled at cask strength, which varies slightly depending on where the rum is aged and what percentage it entered the cask at. There is a 13-year-old, a 17-year-old and a 20-year-old, as well as a number of vintage rareproof rums, which were bottled for the first time in 2021 with the vintage of 2014. Seleccion Esplendida is vintage rum from specially selected vintages, selected by Marco Savio, phenomenal rum is available here. Finally, Malecon makes a sweeter Licor de Ron at 35%, which is incredibly popular due to its complexity and sweetness.
