Carmen López de Bastidas is Venezuela’s only female master blender, and Carúpano 21 is her masterpiece. This rum, subtitled Reserva Privada, is aged for up to 21 years in American oak barrels. The warm days and cool nights result in high evaporation, and unlike in other countries, the barrels are not topped up again. This is the Carúpano tradition, as they believe it produces the best rum—despite the costly process.
Color: Mahogany.
Aroma: Deep, dark notes of coffee, coconut, dried fruit, tobacco, and chocolate.
Tasting Notes: Pleasant sweetness and a rich mouthfeel. Dried fruit (dates, raisins), vanilla, caramel, and a balanced, spicy oak finish.
