This is complex, almost dry single-field Riesling from one of the top fields in the Mittelrhein, Bacharacher Posten, which rises almost vertically above Bacharach on the Rhine.
Ratzenberger owns the best part of the field. Although this is a lightweight in terms of alcohol, it is delightfully inexplicable how the wine has both great body and fantastic aroma intensity.
An excellent terroir with Devonian slate and a stylish winemaker have ensured crystal clear aromas, precise acidity and a mineral salty finish. The northern wine-producing regions of Germany are largely united in being able to make these wines with the combination of intensity, lightness and value-for-money; it should secure the type a place as cultural world heritage.
Smell and taste have intense, precise aromas of white peach, lemon peel, ripe grape, pear and not least a pronounced, salty finish. The acidity is mature so that it does not seem pungent but as a fully integrated part of the wine.
Enjoyed either solo or with a multitude of dishes with bright meat, fish, seafood or intense vegetarian dishes – the possibilities are many.
We recommend a serving temperature of 9-13°.
