Quinta Da Fonte Souto Rosé 2022 75 cl.

Symington Family Estate – Alentejo Portugal

Fresh and Summery Rosé with Notes of Hibiscus, Orange Blossom, and Lilies
A subtle yet full-bodied rosé with fresh notes of apricot, raspberry, lychee, white pepper, and pomegranate, perfectly balanced by the natural acidity of the Aragonêz grape.

On the slopes of the Serra de São Mamede Natural Park, near the town of Portalegre, the vineyards of Fonte Souto are planted at altitudes between 490 and 550 meters above sea level. Here, they benefit from cooler and wetter conditions than those found on the warm Alentejo plains below. The soil, composed of schist and granite, ensures an ideal balance of water retention and drainage. The wines reflect the freshness and balance that the altitude provides – even in an otherwise warm climate.

An exceptional rosé!
Portuguese wines are making a serious impact! The country is renowned for its port, but it actually produces far more dry wine. This rosé is made from Aragonêz, a grape related to Tempranillo—one of my absolute favorites. It offers aromas of white flowers, lime, green strawberries, apricot, peach, and orange zest. On the palate, it is smooth, filled with polished fruit, a hint of sweetness, and plenty of acidity. A truly remarkable rosé.

Quinta da Fonte Souto
Quinta da Fonte Souto is the Symington family’s first estate outside the Douro region. You may have heard of Symington before—they also own the outstanding port producer Graham’s. However, at Quinta da Fonte Souto, the focus is on classic wines. The estate is located in Portalegre, close to the São Mamede mountain range, which provides the vineyards with a cooler climate than one would normally expect in this otherwise warm region. The estate spans 43 hectares of vineyards, primarily planted with Aragonês, Alfrocheiro, Trincadeira, Alicante Bouschet, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Additionally, numerous chestnut trees grow here, inspiring the estate’s name—‘souto’ refers to a wooded area planted specifically with chestnut trees.
