Found almost exclusively in Umbria, Sagrantino produces wines that are rich and bold in nature. This is a true and beautiful expression of the grape, and the land in which it grows. Made by the DiFilippo family, who farm native central-Italian varietals with an organic and uber low-intervention practice – geese are used to chase away the foxes to protect the vines and literal workhorses are used to turn the soil. The wine is aged for 12 months in oak barrels, followed by another 24 months in the bottle before it is released, resulting in a full and persistent profile and strong tannin structure. Intense red berry aromas are followed by notes of dark brambly berries, leather, and tar on the palate. And although incredibly drinkable now, it can also age for another decade and still show all of its beauty… and more! Pair with rich foods such as earthy sausage and creamy cheese
