Sven’s royal mead, a solid mead brewed with the Scandinavian mead herb. Slåen berries give the mead an acidity that gives the impression of a dry mead, with a fresh fruity taste. The mead herb stands out well in the mead and gives a spicy aftertaste that lingers in the mouth.

Our royal mead comes with a nice 10-page booklet, with a story about each individual mead in the series
Sven’s mead is the third of 3 meads in our Kongemjød series.

Description

Kongemjød – Sven Tveskæg

For us, Sven is the Nordic war king who, unlike his father, wanted to return to the old virtues of Viking raids and Nordic self-awareness.
At the same time, he has been a quick-tempered and aggressive gentleman. In our interpretation, we chose to focus on Sven’s pursuit of the old virtues.

That is why we found our way back to our sacred herb, the mead herb, which has been used for mead all the way back to the Bronze Age. An old Nordic herb that we love to use at Mjødgård.
To give the royal mead a little sourness, “anger” and something sharp like Sven’s sword, we chose the sloe, which also grew here in the Viking Age. The composition of the sour sloe berry, which gives the mead a dry and sour expression, and the sweet spicy mead herb, has produced a royal mead that we really think has character.

Sven Tveskæg is a semi-sweet mead, despite a very intensely sweet aroma, the taste is much milder as the sweetness is tempered by intense fruity acidity and a tannic bitterness. It is the least full-bodied in the king series and has a much more raw and rustic look than its predecessors. Sven’s mead is fresh, sour and with a lovely aftertaste of the well-known mead herb, which lingers in the mouth.

Serving suggestions

The high acidity and bitterness in Sven Tveskæg makes it useful for savory dishes despite its intense sweetness. Very salty and fatty meat dishes such as confit pork and pork belly are its best combination in the savory kitchen, while sour but heavy desserts such as traditional apple cakes, apple pies or desserts made with autumn berries are its best friends among desserts.

Glass

Sven Tveskæg should preferably be served in a glass that emphasizes its sweetness; port wine glasses and tulip glasses give the best experience of the mead.
