Rich and spicy
Harald’s royal mead is brewed with Mediterranean spices. A scent that clearly characterizes the mead.
The spice composition of the mead gives a lovely taste experience, which just tingles a little on the sharp side.
Harald Blåtand is an unusual mead, it is complexly spiced in both taste and aroma in a way that brings memories of sweet Middle Eastern spice mixes. The sweetness is nicely balanced by the spicy flavor and enough acidity to not make the combination nauseating. It has a very long and complex aroma and tastes like a fat and rich mead, which really fills the mouth with flavor and lingers in a very long aftertaste.
The royal mead comes with a nice 10-page booklet, with a story about each mead in the series.
Harald’s mead is the second of three meads in our Kongemjød series.
Ingredients: Water, Danish honey, apples, cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, ginger, oak and yeast. Guidance 13% alcohol.

Description
Kongemjød – Harald Blåtand
With all his actions, Harald has shown a true magnanimous mind. He has been a strategic master and in many ways he has not wanted to be left behind by any European giants. In his very own way, he created buildings, probably based on southern European inspiration, as no one before him had done.
We thought that with a king like Harald, who wanted to show his power via his urge to create, he might also have wanted to show the other Danish magnates that he had close connections to Southern Europe. So why not make a mead based on the spices you could get in Southern Europe at the time. That’s why we brewed Harald’s royal mead with spices that were found in the Mediterranean countries in the Viking Age.
A good Danish summer honey, apples, cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, ginger and oak have been used for this royal mead.

An atypical mead for us at Mjødgård, as we normally do not use herbs that do not grow in our local area.
Serving suggestions
In combination with food, Harald Blåtand is definitely a sweet mead, it will not work with food other than desserts, on the other hand, its complexity makes it able to harmonize with most types of desserts, especially you can really bring out its best side with desserts which uses vanilla, cinnamon and/or cardamom.
Glass
Harald Blåtand’s complexity makes it the best in a glass that emphasizes sweetness, traditional port wine glasses and tulip glasses are clearly the best for the mead.
