Description
Meadowsweet – Formerly called Meadwort
Meadow mead is a fresh and mouth-watering mead, it balances a high fruity acidity with the mead’s natural honey sweetness eminently, both taste and aroma are floral and complex, where the aroma is dominated by dry floral notes such as rapeseed and straw, the taste is fruity and acidic; gooseberries, green apples and tropical fruit. The aftertaste is light and flighty, but still long, complex and refreshing.
Serving suggestions
Meadow mead’s fine balance between acidity and sweetness makes it exceptional in combination with food, although it can be used for desserts, it is best in combination with cold salty dishes with sweet notes; all kinds of marinated herring, lobster, prawns and cold fish dishes garnished with fruit or berries such as green apples, gooseberries, currants, quince or grapes. Engmjød is also excellent with summer’s tart berries and fruit desserts, and its floral sweetness and acidity make it fantastic with salty cheeses such as Western cheese and comté.
*Meadwort is a wild-growing plant that typically grows in wetlands, meadows, ditches, etc. In summer, it puts out its fragrant flowers that smell deliciously spicy. A fantastic flavoring agent for mead, which has been used since the Bronze Age, and therefore one of the reasons why, here in Denmark, the plant has been named as it is. It obliges, and this herb is almost sacred to us in the brewery. It is a mead with which we have a very special and close relationship.
