Martin Miller’s Gin Westbourne Strength 70 cl. 45,2%
England – Iceland Dry Gin
Martin Miller’s Westbourne Strength Gin was created to satisfy British bartenders’ thirst for a gin that could make a splash in classic cocktails. In the Westbourne edition, Martin Miller has turned up the spicy notes from cassia bark and nutmeg, and also bottled it at a slightly higher strength, 45.2%, to give a little more impact in bruisers such as negronis and martinez.
Color: Clear.
Aroma: Grapefruit and orange marmalade, spicy notes of juniper, cinnamon and a touch of cardamom.
Tasting notes: Lots of power in the taste. Juniper berries up front, with lime, cinnamon and menthol in the wake.
Serving suggestion: Can be enjoyed neat, with tonic or in cocktails. It particularly excels in classic cocktails, which benefit from strong gins – try it, for example, in a Negroni!
Martin Miller’s Gin was launched in 1999. It is therefore quite appropriate to recognize the company as one of the forerunners of the modern gin renaissance! The quality has been top notch right from the start, and centered around a classic set of botanicals. The juniper berry is in focus, flanked by “the usual suspects” such as coriander seeds, quail, licorice root and lime peel. The cut is “as sharp as a suit from Saville Row”. However, Martin Miller allows himself one unusual peculiar luxury: The water is Icelandic! Yep, the gin is simply sent to Iceland when it needs to be diluted.
