Martin Miller’s 9 Moons Barrel Aged Gin 35 cl. 40%
England – Iceland Dry Gin
9 Moons is Martin Miller’s first barrel aged gin. It is based on the classic Martin Miller’s Gin, which is built around juniper berries, lime peel, cinnamon, licorice root and a number of other selected botanicals. This already superb gin is then aged for 9 months in used bourbon casks in the company’s warehouse in Bolgarnes, Iceland. It is bottled as “single cask” at 40%, watered down with Icelandic spring water.
Colour: Amber.
Scent: In the scent, the juniper takes a bit of a back seat and shares the spotlight with vanilla, maple syrup and pepper. Nice citrus notes too.
Tasting notes: Creamy taste of lemon, orange, vanilla and juniper.
Serving suggestion: Enjoy it neat, with tonic or in cocktails.
Martin Miller’s Gin was launched in 1999. It is therefore quite appropriate to recognize the company as one of the forerunners of the modern gin renaissance! The quality has been top notch right from the start, and centered around a classic set of botanicals. The juniper berry is in focus, flanked by “the usual suspects” such as coriander seeds, quail, licorice root and lime peel. The cut is “as sharp as a suit from Saville Row”. However, Martin Miller allows himself one unusual peculiar luxury: The water is Icelandic! Yep, the gin is simply sent to Iceland when it needs to be diluted.
