Luna Argenta – Terre Siciliane Appassite 2023 75 cl.

Luna Argenta Appassite adds a new vinous chapter to this millennial Sicilian wine tradition with this wine on partially dried grapes, a technique that is especially prevalent in Valpolicella’s Amarone and Ripasso wines. This costly process contributes to the finished wine with both concentration and complexity.

The grapes are made from the island’s own signature grape Nero d’Avola with a supplement of Syrah and Merlot grown in alluvial soil with a mixture of limestone and sand as well as a more humus-rich top layer.

The vinification takes place in two tempi on stainless steel tanks, the second time with the proportion of grapes included that has been dried in a ‘fruttaia’ or drying room, followed by a few months of barrel storage. This ‘vitamin injection’ gives great texture, fullness and a slightly sweet and silky finish.

In aroma and taste, you get the impression of a tightly packed, easily-accessible wine that is aromatically dominated by dark forest berries, boysenberries, milk chocolate and an element of dried figs, which is a witness to the dried grapes. Gentle, rounded fullness and a silky soft finish with a light sweetness give a drinking experience completely without sharp edges.

Enjoy now or the next few years until red meat in fried or grilled state, but also for boeuf bourguignon and other simmering dishes.
