In Elements 2.0, Laphroaig presents the second original release in their Explorative Series. This series challenges the boundaries of whisky production and deviates from traditional methods. With Laphroaig Elements 2.0, the fermentation process was explored. Typically, fermentation at Laphroaig lasts 55 hours, but for Elements 2.0 Islay Whisky, the process was extended to an impressive 115 hours. The experiment began on a cold January day using a vat with special ventilation to replicate fermentation conditions used in the past. The prolonged fermentation process resulted in a Laphroaig whisky with pronounced fruity aromas. The limited Laphroaig Elements 2.0 from 2024 was bottled at 59.6% ABV without chill filtration.
What does Laphroaig Elements 2.0 taste like?
The 2024 edition of Laphroaig’s Explorative Series retains the distillery’s signature smoky and peaty profile but also comes across as distinctly fruity and sweet. On the palate, notes of green apples blend with honey, soft peat, and a smoldering campfire. Aromas of smoked seafood enhance the harmony. The finish is sweet, with the warm smokiness intensifying gradually. In the glass, the whisky glows with a vibrant pale gold color.
Distillery Manager Barry Macaffer describes Laphroaig Elements 2.0 as: “All the aromas are really strong and intense but work well together, creating an overall smooth and balanced impression.”

With the 2023 release of Laphroaig Elements 1.0, the distillery launched the Explorative Series. This Islay whisky experimented with different barley varieties and altered the mashing process. 1.0 displayed the typical Laphroaig character combined with spicy pepper, charred pineapple, and zesty licorice. In 2024, the similarly limited Laphroaig Elements 2.0 followed.
