Kavalan Solist Manzanilla 70 cl. 57,8%

A Taiwanese whisky with a Sherry Finish and a hint of salt and sea. Like the “regular” Kavalan Solist Sherry Cask, Manzanilla is consistently aged in former sherry casks. The big difference, however, is the place where the casks are stored during maturation. Unlike Solist Sherry, Manzanilla matures directly by the coast – the maritime influence is clearly noticeable in its aroma profile.

Founded in 2006 in Yilan County, Kavalan Distillery is Taiwan’s first and only distillery. It is owned by the company “King Car,” which operates in various fields such as beverages, food, biotechnology, aquaculture, and more. The distillery “Kavalan” is named after the Taiwanese aboriginal tribe that first settled in Yilan County. The main ingredients of the whisky are pure water, sourced from springs in the Central Mountains and the snow-covered mountain range, as well as barley malt from Scotland, as the local humid climate does not allow for its cultivation. Taiwanese whisky matures differently from Scotch whisky due to the warm climate, which causes the whisky to absorb the aroma of the oak much faster. Due to the island’s unique climate conditions, three years of Taiwanese whisky can be compared to fifteen years of Scotch whisky. In December 2008, the first bottle of “Kavalan” whisky was launched. For the maturation of the whisky, various types of new bourbon and sherry casks, as well as reused casks, are used. The result is a whisky with a complex bouquet of floral and fruity notes.
