Kavalan Concertmaster Port Cask Finish 70 cl. 40%

Single Malt Whisky – Taiwan

Kavalan Concertmaster is a single malt whisky from Taiwan. Concertmaster is first aged in bourbon casks, then receives a so-called “finish” in different types of port casks, including Ruby, Tawny, and Vintage port. The port cask aging adds an extra layer of complexity to a whisky that has already achieved great depth and maturity due to Taiwan’s tropical climate. Color: Deep golden. Aroma: Chocolate, raspberry, and honey. Tasting notes: Guava, melon, agave syrup, and light chocolate.

Serving suggestion: Best enjoyed neat.

Founded in 2006 in Yilan County, Kavalan Distillery is Taiwan’s first and only distillery. It belongs to the company “King Car,” which operates in various fields such as beverages, food, biotechnology, aquaculture, and more. The distillery “Kavalan” is named after the indigenous tribe that first settled in Yilan County. The main ingredients in the whisky are pure water, sourced from springs in the Central Mountains and the snow-capped mountain range, and barley malt from Scotland, as the local humid climate does not allow for its cultivation. Taiwanese whisky matures differently from Scottish whisky due to the warm climate, which allows the whisky to absorb the oak’s aroma much faster. Thanks to the island’s unique climate, three-year-old Taiwanese whisky can be compared to fifteen-year-old Scottish whisky. In December 2008, the first bottle of “Kavalan” whisky was launched. Various types of new bourbon and sherry casks, as well as reused casks, are used for aging the whisky. The result is a whisky with a complex bouquet of floral and fruity notes.
