Jean Daneel Signature Red 2018 75 cl.

South African Red – Stellenbosch

Grapes: 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot
Preparation: The grapes are picked in Franschoek and then, after crushing, undergo a long skin maceration and ferment together with the skins for good complexity. Malolactic fermentation took place in oak barrels where the wine was aged for 22 months. The barrels were small and French and 50% of the oak was new. Jean Daniel
collaborates with barrel binders and carefully selects wood types. For the Signature wines, he follows very thin bars for very good barrel extraction.

The wine: Dark berries and distinct hints of dark chocolate and mocha. Elegant wine with soft tannins and well-integrated barrel character. Great concentration and fruit that will develop with further maturation in the bottle.

The producer: Jean Daneel established himself as winemaker at Buitenvervachting and then at Morgenhof. In 1997 he started his own and after several years of working with contracted growers and continuing to advise several wineries in the valley, in 2003 he was able to realize his dream of his own land and his own vineyard in Franschoik. The new addition is a wine year in Napier and 2006 is the first wines from their own cellar there. Jean Daneel is a pioneer in the area and has planted Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Shiraz here. Napier is located
on the southernmost tip of Africa and the coolness of the sea provide exceptionally good conditions for producing high quality grapes.
