Dark ruby red color. It expresses fruity hints of morello cherries and cherries on the nose, enriched by pleasant aromas of roses and eucalyptus. It has all the density of a great Mediterranean Cannonau thanks to these notes. In the mouth it is welcoming, generous and very long, it is pleasantly soft and warm, with fresh and robust tannins. The closure is on the fruit, of great persistence.
THE PERFECT COMBINATION (OR ALMOST)
Throughout the meal, Sedilesu’s “Mamuthone” goes well with game dishes and generally red meats and mature cheeses.
The “Mamuthone” fully expresses all those typical characteristics of the Cannonau di Mamoiada and wins the merit of the symbolic wine of Giuseppe and Grazia Sedilesu’s company: its aromas have a Mediterranean appeal, a tasting with a depth truly out of the ordinary. Cannonau di Sardegna Mamuthone di Sedilesu was born in vineyards located in the municipality of Mamoiada.
It is produced exclusively with Cannonau grapes, harvested in October. Fermentation takes place spontaneously, subsequently the wine matures in barriques for 12 months, and refines in the bottle for a further 6 months.
Produced in 70,000 examples, Sedilesu’s “Mamuthone” is a wine that matures for the time necessary to make it soft and expressive. A great Sardinian wine.
The Sedilesu family
A family winery in the heart of Sardinia, in Barbagia, which has more than thirty years of history behind it. Currently owning to about 15 hectares in the countryside of Mamoiada, 650 meters above sea level.
Mamoiada experiences a mild Mediterranean climate with hot dry summers and some rainfall and snow in the winter. During the growing season prior to harvest, the region has a significant diurnal temperature swing which helps to preserve acidity, enhance sugars, and improve grape phenolics. The soils of Mamoiada are sandy and mainly composed of decayed granite with small amounts of clay and humus.
The family grows mainly the Sardinian indigenous grape Cannonau and managed to save from extinction the white local grape called “Granazza”. All the vines reach a very high average age, with a third of the vines being around fifty years old and some even the century of age.
Here the words from Giuseppe: “In full respect of biodiversity, environmental balance and the ecosystem, we get to harvest grapes that are pure, rich and concentrated in all their components. Bunches that are transformed in the cellar by pursuing a precise production philosophy: respect for the typicality of the varietal and the peculiarities of the territory, severe and scrupulous attention paid to each working step.”
With Giuseppe Sedilesu and his wife Grazia now over eighty years old, the winery is led by their son Salvatore and his family. Always focusing on high quality products, the main objective remains the same, so that in each label can give credit to the territory, the main inspirer of unique and inimitable wines.
