With Gelas Armagnac 30 Ans we begin to approach the really old spirit. After 30 patient years in oak casks, this armagnac has developed into a very complex taste experience, which, however, still has plenty of freshness that ensures it does not overpower. The aroma has tobacco notes and dried fruit, while the taste is dark and full of roasted nuts and chocolate.

Tasting notes: Deep and dark flavors of coffee, ginger, roasted nuts and more chocolate.

Maison Gelas was founded in 1865 and for more than four generations has distilled and aged Armagnac under the family’s own name. The company is located in Bas Armagnac, which is the smallest of Armagnac’s three districts. Here, the soil has a very special character, which provides the best growing conditions in the vineyards.

Maison Gelas offers a wide range of Armagnacs. The family grows the grapes themselves, distills the spirits as well as stores and bottles their Armagnacs and therefore has control over the quality of the product from start to finish. Of the family’s many special specialties, e.g. mentions a number of exceptional “monocépage” or “single grape” Armagnacs – i.e. a number of “pure” and unmixed Armagnacs, where the difference in aroma and flavor impression is really prominent. These are of course bottled at cask strength and without filtration. In addition, Maison Gelas, superior to most other Armagnac producers, offers more than 90 different vintage Armagnacs – all the way back to 1887.

Since 2001, Philippe Gelas has managed and developed the family’s extensive range. Philippe is also the author of a great book about Armagnac and there is hardly a person more knowledgeable about the history of the area and the production of Armagnac.
