This deep-colored wine has a bouquet of brambly fruits of the tree, coffee bean and dried sage. It opens with notes of mint and cloves accompanied by robust tannins and ripe summer cherries, Mission fig, cocoa powder and dried thyme flavors. The long finish is marked by menthol and pomegranate.

There is some more development in the 2015 Finca Valpiedra Reserva, which also feels slightly more mature (although only 13.5% alcohol), showing the dry, warm and ripe character of the year, but maintaining a low pH of 3.47 and 6 .2 grams. acidity. This one is medium-bodied, although some would call them thin – and certainly, they are not full-bodied and round wines, they are sharper. This is a blend of 92% Tempranillo and 4% each Graciano and Maturana Tinta, aged in French oak barrels for 22 months. These wines feel a bit more traditional than before.
About Finca Valpiedra
Finca Valpiedra is an “offspring” of the well-known Riojahus Bodegas Valdemar, which is generally known for producing wine of superb quality at low prices. Due to the great success, they chose to separate Finca Valpiedra together with Finca Antigua in La Mancha and Cosecheros y Criadores in Tierra de Castilla from the original Bodegas Valdemar, so that these three now form the winery Familia Martinez Bujanda.
Finca Valpiedra – the vineyard with the stony field – was built as a completely unique and state-of-the-art bodega in 1991 by the Martinez Bujanda family in the exclusive Rioja Alta, just 20 meters from the Ebro River. The grapes for this single vineyard wine are grown on 80 ha of fields with a soil of sand and lime in a climate with perfect rainfall and sunshine. You harvest over several rounds to always have perfectly ripe grapes in your house, and the result is unique.
