Mabalel Pinot Noir is one of Crystallum’s most loved wines. The name “Mabalel” comes from a poem by legendary South African poet and multitasker Eugene Marais that tells the story of Mabalel; the daughter of a local chief who was attacked by a Lalele crocodile while fetching water at the Limpopo River.
Smell and taste
The aroma is charmingly red-fruited and complex with notes of ripe strawberries, raspberries, pomegranate, currants, orange peel, cloves, cinnamon, charcuterie. The wine is hugely complex, with small soft tannins, fresh acidity and a long aftertaste in a style that balances Burgundian influences with the best of the New World.
Suitable for
This wine has many pairing possibilities with its elegant tannin structure and pure fruitiness – go well with chicken, pork fillet and pasta, grilled steak, venison and hard cheeses
