Château Barrau Sauternes is made using grapes from the communes of Fargues and Bommes, about 50 km south/southeast of Bordeaux.
Sauternes is Bordeaux’s famous sweet wine, made from the grapes sémillon and sauvignon blanc. Where the tributary Ciron flows into the Garonne, there are perfect conditions for ‘noble rot,’ to which the sémillon grape is particularly susceptible. These raisin-like grapes have made the wines from this region world-famous for their pronounced honey sweetness and fresh acidity. Sauvignon blanc is an aromatic grape that contributes floral aromas and a lovely crisp acidity.
Château Barrau displays an aromatic palette dominated by apricot, orange peel, and peach, with a delightful spicy honey note. The sweetness is balanced by a healthy acidity, giving the wine good freshness.
Enjoy this Sauternes as an aperitif, after-dinner drink, with foie gras terrine, not with aged blue cheese or desserts with poached fruit and their respective syrup.
The wine is ready to drink now and does not benefit from further aging.
Remember to use a spacious wine glass and serve at a temperature of 8-10°.
