Blandy’s has sent us a few bottles of a lush, decadent and creamy bual aged for a full 30 years in the traditional canteiro system. It really is a gem! The wine is a composition of 5 of the best vintages from the last 30 years, and it has an average age of 32 years. The youngest wine in the blend is 11 years old and the oldest is 47. And why this blend? Yes, Blandy’s explains that they have tried to strike the perfect balance between freshness and ripeness, acidity and sweetness. We think we have succeeded quite well.
There are 90 grams of residual sugar per litre.
Colour: Dark amber.
Aroma: Super complex aroma of apricot, peach, citrus peel and white pepper.
Tasting notes: Dense, intense, sweet and with lots of acidity, so that the mouth waters. Many layers of dried fruit, spices, stone fruit and citrus.
Serving suggestion: Enjoy it lightly chilled as a meditation wine.
Whether you’re after a good but affordable bottle or a fancy frasquira from your birth year, Blandy’s is the absolute best bet. It is, quite simply, the island’s top producer!
