In February 1862, the Bacardí family, led by Don Facundo Bacardí Masso, buys a distillery in Santiago de Cuba. Here they created their own unique blends and developed a revolutionary rum-making method that forever changed the way rum was made.
The bat is considered to be a symbol of good luck in Cuba, and it is still believed that the little lucky figure on each bottle helps the distillery’s success and equally helps them through hard times.
In the 1960s, revolution came to Cuba and Bacardi’s assets were seized. The family went to the United States, where the brand was resurrected and thrives to this day.
