Ardbegen Ten Years Old is admired worldwide and is considered the most clearly, smoked and complex single malt of them all. However, the peat does not dominate, but rather accommodates the natural sweetness of the malt, and we therefore have to do with a whiskey in perfect balance, which is appointed “World Whiskey of the Year” in 2008.
Ardbegen Ten Years Old has a nice, light golden color. In the scent one is first hit by an explosion of intense smoked fruit, peat infused with lemon and lime, wrapped in waxy dark chocolate. Mentol and black pepper cut through the sweet smoke followed by tar-containing rope and graphite. Enjoy the aroma of smoked fish and crisp bacon along with green peppers, baked pineapple and pear juice.
If you add water, an oceanic minerality will bring a breath of cool, salt seawater. Grown lemon and lime comes with cultjær soap, beeswax and pine forest. Toasted vanilla and sizzling cinnamon simmer with hot hazelnut and almondoffee.
An explosion of crackling peat triggers millions of flavors: peat bubbles with bitter lemon and adhesive juice, black pepper poper with sizzling cinnamon-spicy caramel. Then comes a wave of brine infused with soft buttermilk, mature bananas and blackcurrant. Smoke grows gradually in your mouth and brings a mouthful warm, creamy cappuccino and roasted marshmallows. As the taste is extended and deepened, dry espresso, licorice root and tarred smoke are developed. The aftertaste continues and continues. It is long and smoked with tarred espresso, anise seed, roasted almonds and traces of soft barley and fresh bulb.
