Anker Chokolade was founded by Martin Nørregaard and Mikkel Anker in 2015.

Anker Chokolade is a fusion between a Michelin chef and chocolatier, Mikkel Anker, and a food enthusiast with a passion for running a business, Martin Nørregaard. With our different backgrounds, we bring unique perspectives on creating the perfect product. Mikkel’s experience in fine dining and Michelin-starred kitchens has given us a fresh approach to the “traditional” flavors in chocolate. We don’t feel bound by the idea that “it’s always been done this way”; instead, we allow ourselves to think creatively and challenge the typical flavors found in chocolate. We work hard to develop each piece of chocolate, ensuring not only that it tastes great but that it’s visually appealing, because we eat with our eyes as well.

Our story begins back in December 2015, when we opened our first store in Vesterbro. After a summer of renovating a basement into a chocolate workshop, we were finally ready to welcome guests on December 17, 2015, where locals could come down to the store and see the chocolate being made. In the beginning, our hours were mainly in the evenings and weekends, as Anker Chokolade was our side project alongside full-time jobs and evening studies. As demand gradually increased, it was time to make a bigger commitment. After a year, we decided that Mikkel would work full-time to keep up with the demand – and things moved so quickly that Martin joined him full-time just six months later. So, we went from full-time jobs and evening studies to being 100% focused on Anker Chokolade.

The Concept

At Anker Chokolade, we strive to challenge your taste buds with our unique selection of chocolates. The chocolates in our collection vary with the seasons, which is why we work with two collections – a Summer Collection and a Winter Collection. We believe ingredients are best when used in their peak season. Therefore, we change 2/3 of our selection every six months, continuously striving to achieve the very best.

Our core idea is to contribute to the traditional chocolate market by introducing new, exciting flavor combinations, pushing the boundaries of what ingredients can be combined with chocolate.

We Love the Craft

As we see chocolate as a craft, we’ve chosen not to buy large machines that can make vast amounts of chocolate in an instant. We believe love should go into every piece, which is why all our products are handmade. This includes everything from decorating the chocolates – often hand-painted with a brush – to molding the shells and filling the chocolates. Everything is done by hand.

This craftsmanship is visible in our stores, where production happens in both locations. If you’d like to see how our production works, you’re always welcome to visit during the day, as that’s usually when production is underway. This on-site production adds to the authentic atmosphere, and the shops are always filled with the fresh aroma of chocolate, leaving no doubt that you’re in a chocolate store.
