Characteristic, aromatic and crisp-sounding vinho verde that rises nicely above the average. It is not only the perfect sunshine wine but also a terrific and versatile food wine. Ponte da Barca Vinho Verde is dry, straight and slim and, not least, a wine that, like few others, provides maximum value-for-money.
It surprises many that on the Iberian Peninsula dry, fresh and slim white wines with low alcohol content are made, but i.a. these characteristics are found in vinho verde. The wine is produced in northernmost Portugal in the Minho province, which is the last stop before the neighbor to the north, Spanish Galicia.
85% of the grapes are loureiro, while alvarinho, trajadura and arinto make up the missing percentages. They stand on nutrient-poor soil with decomposed granite and sand, and the coastal, temperate climate guarantees the acid freshness.
Aroma and taste contain elements of apple, citrus and acacia flower, and the wine’s profile gives the taster the sympathetic combination of lightness and intensity.
Vinho Verde in this quality is an immediate, easy-to-understand and thoroughly enjoyable experience, which, with its modest alcohol content and subtle hint of carbonation, makes it possible to drink a few glasses at lunch without a subsequent midday nap being mandatory. While vinho verde has shown its worth as an excellent ‘sipping wine’, far too few have experienced that it is an excellent and very flexible food wine. Try it, for example, with steamed blue mussels, grilled prawns, pizza or the pork cutlet with sour.
Enjoy young and well chilled, around 5-9°, and remember the good white wine glass, so that you also get the aroma.
