Blandy’s Madeira – Duke Of Sussex (White) 75 cl. 19%
White Seco Dry Madeira
Duke of Sussex is a dry Madeira from Blandy’s. It is made from tinta negra from fields in Camara de Lobos on the south side of the island, which after fermentation and fortification is heated to between 45 and 50 degrees over a period of 3 months, before being aged for 3 years in oak barrels.
By dry, however, we do not mean dry – the wine contains 50 grams of residual sugar (per litre), which means that it is actually quite sweet. In the context of Madeira, however, it is a dry wine, and there is plenty of acid to keep the sweetness in balance. It tastes great!
Colour: Golden.
Scent: Light and delicate scent of citrus and nuts.
Tasting notes: Nice balance between sweetness and acidity in this Madeira, which is full-bodied and fresh at the same time.
Serving suggestion: Enjoy it chilled, e.g. with spicy Indian dishes.
Whether you’re after a good but affordable bottle or a fancy frasquira from your birth year, Blandy’s is the absolute best bet. It is, quite simply, the island’s top producer!
